SAN FRANCISCO'S QUILTED NORTHERN SOFT & STRONG® CHAMPIONS - TAMSIN KENDALL AND ALLAN TROWBRIDGE
Allan Trowbridge and Tamsin Kendall are the husband-and-wife team affiliates dream of having join their volunteer ranks. For the past five years, Tamsin and Allan have managed the late registration tables for the San Francisco Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure event. Both cancer survivors, breast (Tamsin) and throat (Allan), wanted to be a part of the cause and help women through the difficult battle of cancer.
"I have always been an optimist, so when I was diagnosed at the age of 42 with breast cancer I started looking for "Silver Linings." After the two surgeries to get me to a "clean margin," the Silver Lining was that my left breast still had a nice drape to it. Then, during my chemo treatments I found out how many family and friends I had and realized 'Hey - I don't look so bad without hair!'"
"After my emergency appendectomy, I thought the scars matched those of my husband. And, during the six weeks of radiation I got to leave work early - every day." - Tamsin Kendall
"After my wife's experience with breast cancer and mine with throat cancer, it reinforced my belief that someone has to be out there talking about this disease and help solve the problem and find a cure. Plus, volunteering has its own reward through the multitude of people you meet and wouldn't meet if you hadn't been involved."
"I'm always dragging people I know to events and know that's the best way to get more volunteers out. For this race, I've pulled my brother, David, and sister, Donna, all the way from Virginia to help us work the late registration tables." - Allan Trowbridge
Tamsin and Allan have supported Susan G. Komen since 2000. Beyond the race, the pair has participated in lobbying events in Washington, D.C., and Sacramento, Calif., as well as local speaking engagements.
Georgia-Pacific is proud to call Tamsin Kendall and Allan Trowbridge Quilted Northern Soft & Strong® Champions.
